NASCAR Stars of Tomorrow-Derek Thorn
From Obscurity to a New Guitar
By Dennis Michelsen
Just one year ago Lakeport, California's Derek Thorn was
uncertain about his racing future. But a strange chain
of events would lead to this twenty-year-old driver ending
up as one of the drivers most sought after in the ASA
Late Model Challenge division for this season. Now Derek
Thorn's stock is rising and his racing future looks bright!
Let's meet this youngster that has risen to the top of
the Pat Bourdow Rookie of the Year standings in the ASA
Late Model Challenge Series this season with his eyes
on the championship!... MORE

Another
Bright Star from Texas
Stars of Tomorrow-James Buescher
By Dennis Michelsen - The most amazing development
in racing to me is not so much the youth movement but
rather how smooth and consistent these young drivers are
nowadays. Just a few years ago when a young guy would
show up at a 100-lap event for the first time he would
be lightning fast for the first 20-30 laps but then burn
off his tires and fade. When a young driver shows consistency
lap after lap and also takes care of his equipment it
stands out. Earlier this spring I covered an ASA Late
Model event from Hickory Motor Speedway. This is one tough
track that developed many NASCAR stars and was a regular
fixture on the Winston Cup circuit back in the day. Finishing
third in that event was sixteen-year-old James Buescher
from Plano, Texas. This is one "Star of Tomorrow"
that you will see racing in NASCAR in a few years... MORE

Hawkeye
Downs Hero-Landon Cassill
Stars of Tomorrow
By Dennis Michelsen
You just never know where the next big star in racing
will be born. While the ASA Late Model Series is a long
way from the star struck world of NASCAR, one youngster
campaigning in this development series is well on his
way to stardom. Just like its namesake of yesteryear that
spawned stars such as Rusty Wallace, Alan Kulwicki, and
Mark Martin; the ASA Late Model series is grooming the
next generation of racers. One of those guys you will
be hearing more about in the years to come is Landon Cassill
from Fairfax, Iowa... MORE
Stars
of Tomorrow- Alex Kennedy
The "New Mexico Rising Star"
By Dennis Michelsen- Turn back the clock
a few years and the only place you would see a 13-year
old kid racing is at the arcade! But today these young
guns are getting younger all the time. Introducing Alex
Kennedy from the tiny town of Aztec, New Mexico. If you
think this is going to be the same old story of the "Little
League" Dad pushing the bratty "Natural"
to do more and more, faster and faster, then think again.
This is a family that has their priorities straight. If
Alex doesn't maintain "Honor Roll" level grades
then he doesn't get to race.... MORE
